New Year, more running

We ran our first half marathon in September 2014.  On Thanksgiving, we ran an easy 10k, and on New Year’s Day we ran a rather more difficult 10k. We have committed ourselves to running a marathon in September – at the same event as we did our half marathon last year.

On January 1st, 2013, I couldn’t run for four consecutive minutes. We did a 5k that day, and it was painful. That distance is now very easy. My system: I started with running for two minutes, then walking for four, and repeating and tweaking that pattern. That was the base.  We are now training at about a one hour run, and will start adding 20 minutes a week until we are at two and half hours. I will post as we go.

Good Weekend Stew 5/26/14

I made the boneless short rib recipe I have been working on for the last year, and it is really coming together. The tricks seem to be a light flour dredge for each rib, after seasoning, and including one allspice and two cloves in the sauce. Of course, homemade stock and decent red wine go a long way.

I started this stew on Friday, finished it Saturday evening, and we had it for dinner Saturday, lunch Sunday, and a snack on Monday (Memorial Day).

It is very good, fills the house with the aroma of slow cooking, and for the price, it is very hard to touch.

Monday Night Pork Chops and Rice 5/19/14

Last night we made the Skillet Pork Chops from our recipe here;

In fact, we updated the recipe during last night’s cooking: I changed the garlic cook time, and decided it is best to return the chops to the pan without reducing the sauce in between. We served it over Uncle Ben’s white rice, and with asparagus on the side. Wasn’t bad.
